Why Incoterms matter more than most buyers think
Incoterms determine who is responsible for freight, insurance, duty and risk at each stage of an international shipment. They also affect total delivered cost and the paperwork you receive. For steel wire imports from Turkey to EU or US, the wrong Incoterm can cost thousands per container in avoidable duty exposure or freight overpay.
FCA and Ex Works: buyer takes control early
FCA (Free Carrier) at a named Turkish location means the seller delivers the wire to your nominated carrier — typically the truck that will move it to port. You handle freight, insurance and destination clearance. Best for buyers with strong freight-forwarding relationships who want maximum control over cost.
Ex Works is similar but with less seller assistance. Discuss FCA with ourquotation desk.
CIF and CFR: seller handles freight to destination port
CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) means the seller pays freight and insurance to the named destination port. You handle port charges, duty and inland transport. Popular with EU buyers who receive at Rotterdam, Hamburg or Piraeus.
CFR is CIF without insurance — use only if you have your own transit cover in place.
DAP and DDP: seller manages to delivery point
DAP (Delivered At Place) means the seller handles freight all the way to your named destination, but you clear duty. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means the seller handles everything including duty. DDP is convenient but more expensive because the seller carries all risk.
Ask for both to compare.
Which Incoterm fits your setup
For volume buyers with dedicated forwarders, FCA gives control and cost visibility. For occasional buyers, CIF simplifies the process. For US destinations, discuss FCA to a US-Atlantic freight forwarder — most Turkish exporters have established relationships.
Get quotes on multiple Incoterms and compare total landed cost, not just the FOB price.
Frequently asked questions
Do you supply EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates by default?
Yes. Every export shipment travels with an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate showing chemistry, tensile properties and dimensional data for the actual heat. This is our default, not a paid add-on.
What are your typical lead times for EU and US buyers?
Standard grades ship 2–4 weeks from PO confirmation. Add 5–10 days sea freight to European destinations and 20–25 days to US East Coast under normal conditions. Custom grades or specialty packaging may extend production time.
Can you handle small trial orders before volume commitment?
Yes. We support new customers with sample lots and small trial orders — typically 1–5 tonnes — before ramping to volume. Contact our quote desk to arrange a sample.
What documentation do you provide for EU and US customs clearance?
For EU shipments we provide A.TR movement certificate to support duty-free entry under the EU-Turkey Customs Union. For US shipments we provide certificate of origin and any HS-code-specific documentation required. Discuss requirements with our export desk.
