Why defect awareness matters before you receive volume
Every buyer should be able to identify basic wire defects on incoming inspection. Not to reject aggressively, but to catch systemic quality problems early. A supplier who ships defective wire once is a mistake; a supplier who ships defective wire repeatedly is a wrong choice.
See ourquality documentation for how we present defect-free lots.
Surface defects: scale, seams, laps
Surface defects come in three main categories:scale (residual oxide from annealing that should be removed for coated wire),seams (longitudinal cracks from the wire rod that never healed), andlaps (surface folds from drawing that create weak points). Visual inspection catches most. Serious cases warrant magnetic particle testing.
Tensile variance within a coil
Tensile variance is often invisible until it hits your production line. A well-controlled coil should show tensile scatter of ±30 N/mm² or tighter. Test three or four samples from different points along a coil during sample evaluation.
If scatter exceeds your process tolerance, discuss with the supplier — it points to a process control issue on their line.
Diameter anomalies
Ovality (non-circular cross-section), diameter drift (gradual change along length) and step change (sudden diameter difference between segments) are all diameter defects. Diameter should be measured continuously by the supplier — laser gauges are standard. Check for consistency on incoming inspection.
End damage and packaging defects
Damaged coil ends slow feeding and cause line stops. Broken wire, bent ends and poorly tied bundles are packaging problems. Reject any coil with compromised ends — it will cost more to work with than it saves.
Frequently asked questions
Do you supply EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates by default?
Yes. Every export shipment travels with an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate showing chemistry, tensile properties and dimensional data for the actual heat. This is our default, not a paid add-on.
What are your typical lead times for EU and US buyers?
Standard grades ship 2–4 weeks from PO confirmation. Add 5–10 days sea freight to European destinations and 20–25 days to US East Coast under normal conditions. Custom grades or specialty packaging may extend production time.
Can you handle small trial orders before volume commitment?
Yes. We support new customers with sample lots and small trial orders — typically 1–5 tonnes — before ramping to volume. Contact our quote desk to arrange a sample.
What documentation do you provide for EU and US customs clearance?
For EU shipments we provide A.TR movement certificate to support duty-free entry under the EU-Turkey Customs Union. For US shipments we provide certificate of origin and any HS-code-specific documentation required. Discuss requirements with our export desk.
