A fastener manufacturer we have supplied for several years switched from black-drawn to bright-drawn wire for their higher-run parts.
The reason was header die wear. Bright surface produces less friction at forming; die life goes up. Coating-ready surface is a bonus.
We ran a controlled trial with them across two weeks before they committed. That is how technical switches should be done, and we set aside the production slots to make it possible.
