The four common finishes and what each means
Steel wire surface finish decides how the wire behaves in your downstream process. Broadly there are four categories:bright (drawn through polished dies for a clean, silvery surface),super-bright (additional polishing passes for a mirror-like finish),black (annealed with residual scale for softer, more forgiving forming) andcoating-ready (surface prepared for downstream painting, plating or galvanising). When to specify bright or super-bright
Bright finish is the default for cold-drawn wire heading to fasteners, springs and appliance sub-parts. Super-bright is worth specifying when downstream includes a plating step, when the customer’s inspection uses machine vision, or when the finished part will be visible without further coating. Super-bright costs more per tonne — decide whether the downstream benefit is worth it.
When black annealed is the better choice
Black annealed wire is softer, more forgiving to form, and cheaper. It is ideal for tying and binding, deep-draw forming, general fabrication and hot-dip galvanising feedstock. It is not the right choice where cleanliness or cosmetic finish matter.
Specify black annealed only where your downstream process either does not care about surface or actively benefits from the residual scale.
Coating-ready surface — what it really requires
‘Coating-ready’ means the surface has been prepared so that a paint, powder or plating layer will adhere without pre-treatment or with minimal pre-treatment. That requires controlled surface finish, no residual drawing lubricant, and consistent metallurgy. Ask your supplier what specific downstream coating processes they qualify for.
A vague ‘coating-ready’ claim is not enough.
How finish choice interacts with packaging and lead time
Super-bright and coating-ready finishes typically need protective packaging (VCI paper, sealed bags) and add a small amount to lead time because they require additional inspection. Bright and black annealed can often ship faster from stock. Factor this into your RFQ and align packaging spec with the finish you are buying.

Do you supply EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates by default?
Yes. Every export shipment travels with an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate showing chemistry, tensile properties and dimensional data for the actual heat. This is our default, not a paid add-on.
What are your typical lead times for EU and US buyers?
Standard grades ship 2–4 weeks from PO confirmation. Add 5–10 days sea freight to European destinations and 20–25 days to US East Coast under normal conditions. Custom grades or specialty packaging may extend production time.
Can you handle small trial orders before volume commitment?
Yes. We support new customers with sample lots and small trial orders — typically 1–5 tonnes — before ramping to volume. Contact our quote desk to arrange a sample.
What documentation do you provide for EU and US customs clearance?
For EU shipments we provide A.TR movement certificate to support duty-free entry under the EU-Turkey Customs Union. For US shipments we provide certificate of origin and any HS-code-specific documentation required. Discuss requirements with our export desk.
